Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 10:28:02 PM- DEMF
How fun was the Detroit Electronic Music Festival? So fun that even though I put my arm through a piece of plate glass on the first night it didn't diminish the fun one bit. It's all good though, a cute girl from Bermuda told me she likes scars.

All three nights of our after-parties went incredibly well despite that rocky beginning. Ridiculous fun and amazing music and an enormous tank of nitrous and tons of people so cool, when they go to sleep sheep count them. And the performers at DEMF itself were fantastic. Pretty Lights ruled. DJ Excision kicked all ass and did what I've tried doing for quite a while, remixed Reigning Blood by Slayer beautifully. Ghostland Observatory absolutely stole the show and melted my mind.

Anyway, here are some pictures:

We storm into DEMF straight out of the post-apocalyptic wastes!

FG2 shows off her sexy eyes as I show off my ability to bite cleanly through my own teeth.

Later I liberated some light-up glasses and a pacifier for better DEMF survival

Friday, May 28, 2010, 12:46:09 AM- Crime snowball
I just had to take time out of my tensely tight schedule of preparing for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival to go and pay a $750 cash bond (they wouldn't take credit) to get FG1 out of jail. She was arrested for driving with a suspended license. Irritatingly, her license is not in fact suspended and she hasn't had a ticket in eight years. We checked this on the Dept. of Revenue after bonding her out. The police told us to take this information with us to court next month and they'll be gracious enough to give some of this money back.

Tomorrow I have to go (because they closed before we got her out of jail tonight) and pay another $200 to get the car out of impound right before I jump on a plane to Detroit.

I don't really have the time to share what I feel about this situation as it's long, info-packed and ranty but I will conclude with this:

I'm in a bit of a cash bind for my trip now that I'm $900 lighter. Gonna have to hit a bank on the way out of town. At least I had the good foresight to invest in a handgun years ago. It's the investment that keeps on giving.

Wednesday, February 17, 2010, 5:44:42 PM- I AM A GOLDEN GOD!
Ok, L.A. was absolute Hunter S.ian adventure the pleasures and excitements of which are rarely paralleled, but that all immediately fell to shit the moment I returned home and flopped on my couch to relax with my glorious and adored PS3 that I've had since launch day and began to watch a Blu-Ray only to have the movie seize up and the system refuse to read any discs afterward!

I screamed to the heavens and my tears formed rivers. I tried every different type of disc, DVD, CD, PS2 game, PS3... coaxing each time like a character on E.R., "LIVE damn it, LIVE!"

Nothing.

Once I got over my mourning period I found that Sony would charge me $150 for repair as it was no longer under warranty and that there were plenty of other shops willing to do the repair for about the same money. My mind became fixed on a plan so genius that some would call it MAD! <cue lightning>

I donned my lab coat and withdrew to the dark confines of my study with instructions to the rest of the household that I was not to be disturbed under any circumstances I began feverishly researching the problem. I deduced that it was my Blu-Ray Laser module, the KES-400a for those of you taking notes, that had burned out. I ordered its replacement for under $50. Yesterday it arrived and as I worked with an elaborate set of pulleys and arcane technology I extracted the heart of the unit and replaced it with the new one and...

AND...

IT'S ALIIIIIIVVEEE!!!!!!!!!

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy!

Wednesday, January 27, 2010, 10:15:58 AM- LaLa land immenent
This weekend Fiercehouse invades L.A. and San Diego for a few days of clubbing and taking in two mind-blowing performances by one of the most creative bands of artists still going, The Residents. Last time I saw them was in New York and after I left their surreal and macabre dreamlike show I staggered out into New York's night shaken and bewildered and totally exhilarated by what I'd just witnessed only to wind up on the roof of the Empire State Building staring in complete, mind-blown amazement. It was one of the best trips of my life. If this one is even half as good I'll be riding higher from it for the rest of my life. Experiences like that make me feel so much stronger, so much better equipped to understand life and so much more capable of happiness in the face of adversity.

You all have fun this weekend too!

Saturday, January 9, 2010, 12:53:11 AM- Oops...
Sometimes I forget that not everyone is present in the chat room for the stories that begin these blog posts. I posted the stab wound picture for eyeheartbrains who hadn't seen it but I didn't mean to gross everyone else out lol.

This happened like 6 months ago and everything is alright. smile See?

All better. smile

The mad stabber is still at large so be wary when next you find yourself in St. Louis.

Tuesday, January 5, 2010, 7:06:06 PM- Post-party detritus
There is something uniquely beautiful about the leftover debris after a good party. I stumbled down to my basement the next day to find the following things in a pile:

-A pile of glow-in-the-dark slime covered trash
-a gutted dildo
-a chrome bust of Tutankhamen wearing glowy paint make-up
-a pack of good friends laying in various contorted poses on the floor, some who managed to get blankets before crashing, one who covered himself smartly with a piece of chrome painted plastic.

I stared and smiled feeling the way I imagine a parent feels while watching their child sleeping happily amongst a bunch of newly opened toys on Christmas Day.

Thursday, December 31, 2009, 10:09:04 PM- Crunch time!
In the final hours of preparation for Future-topia New Year's Bash here at Fiercehouse.

Completely absurdly overdone sickeningly expensive array of lighting effects and lasers? CHECK.

Tons of decadent foods and treats from edible fruit arrangements to fine caviar to truffles to rumaki? CHECK

Well over six hours of carefully chosen and mixed tracks of the greatest theme-pertaining music known to man? CHECK

A house that looks like a bomb wrapped in chrome spray paint cans and 50's sci-fi movie props went off in the middle of it? CHECK

A variety of alcohols to rival and surpass most local bars? CHECK

We do it right, here at Fiercehouse. wink Hope you all have a great time tonight! 2010... we're officially living in the age of flying cars whether we have them or not now.

Friday, December 18, 2009, 5:16:24 PM- The rejuvenating properties of art
I spent the last five days walking around D.C. by myself. I stayed with friends but each day didn't really hook up with them until 9 in the evening.

D.C. is a strange and transitory city. Everyone there is a tourist or is only there for work and at the outset is only going to be there for a year. This makes the urban areas have no beat of its own, no soul or groove to pick up on.

I spent almost all of my daylight hours walking through museum after museum. Something about art is healing. Can't quite name what I felt but I stared at and analyzed and critiqued and took in and stood awed by so much art that I began to feel a sort of dizzy giddiness. I think from concentrating on thinking in such a purely hedonistic direction for so long, "does this please me? do I enjoy this? what elements are pleasing to me in this work?", I disoriented myself away from worry or obligation and toward enjoyment. Regardless, I totally recommend throwing a day or two away on a good art museum if the holidays aren't striking you quite the way that Nestle Toll House or Coke a Cola said they should.

... Though you might want to stay away from the American Indian Museum if you're near D.C. A bit of a bummer ending on that story I'm afraid.
