Is a orange called a orange because the color orange or is tge color orange call orange because of a orange? 🤔

The colour orange is named after the fruit. Many years ago the colour was considered to be a shade of red !

Makes me wonder why they didn't call red apple. Of course that would be comparing apples to oranges.

To be accurate, what we know as an orange doesn't exist in the wild. The oranges we know were cultivated as a tangerine/grapefruit hybrid!
