The colour orange is named after the fruit. Many years ago the colour was considered to be a shade of red !

Makes me wonder why they didn't call red apple. Of course that would be comparing apples to oranges.

"Interestingly, in Europe, the colour orange didn’t have a name until the 16th century. Prior to that time it was simply called yellow-red."

"Before the word orange came into common use in English, saffron was sometimes used to describe the deep yellow-orange colour."

To be accurate, what we know as an orange doesn't exist in the wild. The oranges we know were cultivated as a tangerine/grapefruit hybrid!
